Navigating Emotional Seasons with Essential Oils

Temporary depression and essential oils

Dear soap enthusiasts and loyal readers, today I am moving away a little from our usual topics to explore an equally fascinating aspect of the world of essential oils. Usually we delve together into the art of cold saponification, but today I want to share with you a different approach, something that touches our inner well-being.

As a passionate soap maker, I can't help but notice how essential oils, which bring our creations to life, can also play a valuable role in our daily lives. Today, I am taking you on a special journey, into the heart of temporary depression, to discover how essential oils can become true allies in our quest for emotional well-being.

As the seasons change externally, our emotions also experience internal fluctuations. Join me on this aromatic exploration, where we'll delve into aromatherapy and discover how a few drops of carefully selected natural essences can bring a burst of light into dark times. Get ready to discover how to transform temporary depression into a positive sensory experience with the beneficial help of essential oils.

Temporary depression differs from depression (a more severe mental disorder) by a state of deep sadness which does not last more than a few weeks . It is characterized by the symptoms already mentioned as well as certain changes in behavior which can alert those around you:

  • no longer want to do usual activities
  • no longer able to make plans
  • have a very unstable mood, etc.

This drop in morale can also occur after an argument with those around you, a destabilizing event, a stressful environment, etc.

In recovering from temporary depression, quality and quantity of sleep plays a role as well as food . Also, favor light meals at the end of the day and full meals at breakfast, this will allow the body to better manage the stress accumulated during the day.

Which essential oils to choose?

To help you overcome this hurdle, several essential oils will be essential.

Petitgrain bitter orange essential oil (Citrus aurantium amara comes from the distillation of bitter orange leaves. Rich in linalyl acetate and linalool, it has calming and relaxing properties indicated for anxiety, nervousness, difficulty falling asleep or somatization due to stress. It is also antispasmodic (cramps, stiff neck, colic, period pain). In atmospheric diffusion, orally or on the skin from the age of 7, Petit grain bigarade essential oil is used at a rate of 2 to 3 drops, 3 times a day.

In case of depression with loss of tone, Ravintsara essential oil (Cinnamamum camphora) is an excellent tonic essential oil. For this indication, favor oral or cutaneous use, from 7 years of age, at a rate of 2 drops 2 to 3 times per day. For prolonged use, a therapeutic window is always recommended: 5 days per week or 3 weeks of treatment followed by one week off.

The essential oil of Marjoram with shell (Origanum maajorana) has anti-infectious and general tonic properties. Used orally from the age of 7, or diluted by the skin, pour 2 to 3 drops of essential oil into a teaspoon of vegetable oil to apply to the handles, 3 times a day.

Other essential oils may also be indicated in cases of seasonal depression:

  • Noble laurel (Laurus nobilis)
  • Spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia)
  • Neroli (Citrus aurantium amara)

In order to find calm and serenity, do not hesitate to diffuse these essential oils alone or in combination at home or at work.

If the problems and symptoms persist, do not hesitate to consult your doctor.
